Harlem

For this post, I would like for you to go and find a copy of the poem called, "Harlem" by Langston Hughes. Read the poem and then paste a copy of the poem onto your blog.

Next, watch this video:

http://www.shmoop.com/video/dream-deferred-hughes/

In this video, there is a brief analysis as to what the author is trying to get across.  I want you to also utilize the Shmoop website to get more information on the poem if you need it.

http://www.shmoop.com/harlem-dream-deferred/summary.html
(check out all of the links on the left of the page too - lots of good information)

Now, that you have read the poem, understood the meaning behind it, and pasted a copy on your blog I want you to write about it! How does this poem relate to The Great Gatsby?  Write two paragraphs that compare and contrast the poem to the book - explain both thoroughly.

Character Map

For this blog, I would like you to create a character map using Google Drawing. Insert images of the following:
  1. Nick Carraway
  2. Jordan Baker
  3. George Wilson
  4. Myrtle Wilson
  5. Jay Gatsby
  6. Tom Buchanan
  7. Daisy Buchanan
Then, connect the characters by arrows and indicate their relation to one another. Be specific and convince me that you know these characters! Once you are done with the map, take a screenshot of the map, and then place it onto your blog.

Journal Entry

For this blog, please write a journal entry. You need to be in the  mindset of Nick, Daisy, Tom, or Gatsby. There is a lot going on in chapter six and we don't necessarily get to hear the true feelings or thoughts these characters are having, but you can tell what's going on in their minds based upon their actions. Let me inside one of these character's minds!

Set it up as:

Dear Journal,

Write ten sentences from the viewpoint of Nick, Daisy, Tom, OR Gatsby. Just pick one! Be sure to have them discuss what is going on in chapter six and how they are feeling about it!

Sincerely,
Nick, Daisy, Tom OR Gatsby

This blog will let me know if you have been reading!
